October 20, 2010
Hi,

Lin_and_David

Lin Schneider is our live-in sea glass expert (i.e., wife) and sea glass jewelry designer. She writes:

Lin at sea glass jewelry work tableAfter all is said and done, it seems I'm having a really bad flare of the CFS/fibromyalgia which has kind of interrupted my activities a bit.

At any rate, we did get to the beach last week for a little walk. The beach is 4 times the size it was during Dec-May. It's an amazing change but unfortunately you can't find any sea glass either. There's just too much sand. I guess we'll have to wait for December.

Lin torch sea glass silver smithing pmc

Other news - I did my first silversmithing and was pretty happy with the results considering it's been over 30 years since I've held a torch.

sea glass jewelry silversmithed pmcI also got to do a few pieces with PMC and am learning what it can and can't do.

I learned it is definitely better to wait until the piece is completely dried out and not get impatient and torch it too soon like I did. They blow up!    ;-)

sea glass jewelry silversmithed pmc

As far as drilling sea glass, we're going to have to wait until we can locate a collet that is the right size.

When I bought my Dremel in the states before moving, I just assumed it would have what I needed. Wrong.

The collet is too big for the small drill bits for glass. Frustrating. I'm not sure we can locate one here, and if we can't, we'll have to wait until David's son and family come for a visit.

There's been a lot of activity with sea glass festivals and sea glass being in the news. Did any of you get to go?

It even made it into the New York Times. Definitely a growing hobby. How can it not be, right??  Once started, you're hooked. Oh,oh.

So what have ya'll been up to?

Dec 14, 2009, Update on our move to the beach, Peru

Hi all. We have been so busy that I haven't gotten a newsletter out in a couple of weeks, and probably won't get to it for another few days.

However, Lin and I are enjoying our stay with friends while looking for a house to rent here in Los Organos, Peru.

The beach is beautiful, although we haven't found much as far as beach glass.

For you surfers, the waves are going off today with a new north swell, waves about 6 feet here and much bigger at Cabo Blanco, about 25 minutes from here.

More later, David and Lin Schneider
