your Odyssey Sea Glass News, Issue #047 - The Phantom Strikes!
January 23, 2011
Hi,

Lin_and_David
The Phantom Strikes!??

Well, the phantom of sea glass is all we've seen here recently. Not quite true, but the few pieces weren't really thoroughly "cooked".

This is the time of year when surfing is good here in Peru and we've been to some of the spots.

Unfortunately, with the La Niņa going on, it's not the best for sea glass. With not much change in warm currents, the sands haven't disappeared like last year...yet.

We're still hoping that it won't be a "phantom" years, as in "ghost" year, like you think you see sea glass and it's just a phantom or shadow of the real thing...

But although sea glass season hasn't arrived here yet, many of you are having great finds. Scroll down to see what y'all have been sending in, there are a lot of good photos and interesting finds with some questions about identification as well as new sea glass spots reported.

Even though there hasn't been much in the way of sea glass in our vicinity, we've found that there are lots of other things to hold our interest.

For example, we just had a young friend bring over a huge seashell he found in shallow water while diving. Wonder how old it is?

Our crazy egret is still fishing the shore here. He's not big on getting wet but sure likes the idea of fresh fish ;-)

We went to one beach called El Nuro and found all kinds of seahorses and "flotsam and jetsam." Or does flotsam and jetsam refer to floating things only? Whatever, we found some of those, too. UFO's. Unidentified Floating Objects (not pictured).

Went to another beach called "Lobitos" and met "ladroncito" which means little thief. Here he is with grand daughter Arianna Schneider.

lobitos peru beach dog and Arianna

This beach dog was having the time of his life snatching peoples' sandals, T-shirts, whatever, and racing all over the beach while their owners frantically tried to run him down to get their things back.

He was one happy dog and must have been kin to the Energizer Bunny because he never stopped.

Even though a good many folks are hunkered down for the winter, we know some of you are still getting to the beach. Let us know about your findings, we love seeing them!

Here is a little reminder to check out the upload features on the fun page, where you can contribute your comments, questions, and photos on what you find at the beach or just about anything to do with beach glass.

We invite any of you to share a short story of your beach impressions (funny, sad, or exciting) and get a link to the website or blog of your choice.
