Found red and 2 tone seaglass

by Haszel
(White Rock,BC, Canada)

1.25 inches long - very narrow

1.25 inches long - very narrow

1.25 inches long - very narrow good frosting - same site as red

Hi,

I found both pieces yesterday during low tide.

Surprised to see that the red piece looks like it is new as no pebbling or frosting.

In the white piece that has a yellow-brown tone through it what would create this effect?

Thanks,

Haszel

Hi Haszel,

Lots of times a piece cannot be identified if it is too worn. However, a fresher piece like the red one might be easier.

I believe the other piece is a rock, but I could be mistaken.

For identifying pieces not from bottles a good book is Collectible Glassware from the 40s, 50s, 60s 10th Edition (Collectible Glassware from the Forties, Fifties, and Sixties)

Red glass bead and marble?
by: Pookie

I think I have seen red glass beads like the one you showed. It may not be weathered because it may have just been lost recently.

The other looks like the marbles I found in the Delaware River. Mine are quite small, but you can almost tell that they were once marbles.

I have lots of broken pieces of marbles and they all seem to have two or three colors in them. Of course, it could also be a rock.

Red and 2 tone sea glass question
by: David and Lin at Odyssey

The red glass is shiny because it has not been tumbled in the waves very much. We have never seen anything like it - very interesting!

The two-tone sea glass is harder to identify. If it is smaller than a marble, it could be a well-worn marble. Or it might be a piece of ceramic. It might even be a rock.

Perhaps a viewer will be able to make a good guess. Other than that, taking it to a seaglass festival where some experienced collectors could see it and feel it would be the best bet.

Awaiting answer on yellow effect on seaglass
by: Anonymous

Hi Dave and Lin,

Do you have any idea what has caused the "yellow effect " in this seaglass?

Also why is the red seaglass not weathered looking?

Thanks

Haszel
