Hanging Beach Glass Mobile

by Diane

Almost Done

Almost Done

Love to design with different colors, this is my first and favorite... although not yet completely finished in this photo

You really need to drill the glass in water with a sponge underneath using a small cordless Dremel drill. Place enough water in a small pyrex or something sturdy, start drilling slowly, as to not crack the glass. The water cools the drill and the glass. Takes some practice and expect to crack some pieces, especially the tumbled glass which I found to crack easily.

Basically drilling is the most tedious part of this project, the rest was pretty simple.

Material:
Fishing line
Beach Glass, Stained Glass, or Tumbled Glass. Any strong object to construct on such as driftwood, etc. of which holes are drilled so that nylon can be strung and threaded through.

To drill or not to?
by: Marylyn(SuperNan)

Hi Diane,

Nice work!

Instead of drilling your [precious finds]could you use little necklace findings and glue them onto the glass?

There are some very strong glues out there.

They have a small opening to thread the fishing line or wire through.

For that matter, could you also glue a small bead onto the edge of the glass and thread the same through that.

I hate the idea of wrecking my [precious finds] when drilling.

Regards,
Marylyn(SuperNan)
