New Brighton State Beach California

Rated: Poor

Took a quick walk here last week and didn't see anything. Might be worth exploring more - there is an area called 'China Beach' where there was previously a Chinese fishing village.

More info:

New Brighton is near Santa Cruz in Northern California. South of Santa Cruz off Highway 1 is the town of Capitola on the beach. South of there you'll find New Brighton.

It is really a beautiful beach with forested cliffs, nearby camping, lots of sand, and probably some good sea glass depending on the time of year and wave action.

Lin and I spent a couple of hours there a year ago and didn't find any sea glass, but the grandkids have found sea glass at the beach right next to it, Seacliff Beach.

I spent a lot of time there surfing and camping back in the days when I lived in Capitola and Santa Cruz in the 1960s and 70s and have always had great memories.

New Brighton to Seacliff
by: Robin C.

I just want to vouch for the previous comments regarding New Brighton. From New Brighton to the cement ship at Seacliff is a awesome stretch of beach for "treasure"(seaglass, really cool stones, shells and more) But like the previous comments say, you are probably gonna waste your time unless you see the rockpiles.

On a good day youll see pile after pile of what appears to be peagravel. But up close youll find seaglass, little shells and more guaranteed.

Lots of treasures
by: D

This is actually an amazing beach for glass. Besides Davenport THIS is where the majority of my collection comes from.

Go first thing in the morning. Look for the gravel and you'll find some things not find anywhere else on earth.

This is a VERY special strip of sand..... 🖤

When the rocks are there, you'll find sea glass
by: Patty

This beach, which is actually three continuous beaches in a row, New Brighton, Potbelly, and Sea Cliff, will definitely have good sea glass there when the rock piles are also on the beach.

I could spend hours digging through the rocks and will always find some really nice jewelry-worthy pieces.

But when there are no rocks, not much chance to find glass.
