Sea Glass hunting on restored beach.
by Em
Comment from OdysseySeaGlass: That depends on several factors. First, was there sea glass before the pumping? If not, anything is an improvement. Second, if the beach was sand before, and now it is down to rock, it likely will cover up the sea glass that may be lying on the rocks uncovered. In many cases, residue pumped from off the shore will bring up shards that have not been in the wave line and never tumbled. We spoke to a woman recently who told of this happening at her beach in Maryland. They began finding ceramic shards dating to the 18th century. The worked was stopped until the source was identified. Sure enough, there was a record of a ship having gone down there at 200 years ago. These were shards from that wreck. Some exciting finds - but none of them were tumbled or frosted. The replenishment was not resumed due to historic value and possible wreck retrieval. ~ David
