Day 2 of a 5 day sea glass adventure and my friend and I were hoping we didn't have the bad luck we had the previous day in Cayucos, CA. I'm happy to say we hit the mother lode at Seaside Beach located just north of Monterey.

My friend Karen and I got up at 6:00 am and planned to be down on the beach about 6:30. First Low tide was at 5:40 am but sunrise wasn't until 6:30 so we timed it pretty perfectly and were walking down to the beach just as the sun was cresting over the high sand dunes that ran along the beach.

We drove to the end of Playa Ave. and parked behind Osh Hardware as we'd read about in the sea glass blogs here.  We walked along a bike path that takes you under Hwy. 1 and to the path to the beach.

Once we left the bike path we started making our way down the beach through a crater that was about 20-30 ft above the beach in the dunes.  This crater was filled with sea glass. Now the quality was not the best but there was an abundance of it in the crater.

After poking around the crater for awhile we made our way down to the beach. We didn't see any pebbly or rocky areas and we were not hopeful we were going to have much luck, but we were rewarded with beautiful pieces of glass just laying in the sand along the low tide line.

I even found a coveted bottle stopper in Aqua no less.  I had to push Karen out of the way and dive on top of it!

Karen said she is still picking sand and gravel out of her knees...sorry Karen. We also found some great pieces of pottery.

I keep a sea glass blog and you can find additional information and pictures for this beach as well as others.

Great find
by: Donna

You ladies found some great things. Sorry you were disappointed in Cayucos. Usually only good during the Winter there. I lived there 9 years and have a large collection. Happy hunting.
