Shell Beach California Sea Glass

Shell Beach California Sea Glass

~ Shell Beach sea glass report submitted by Larry Haynes in California, USA

Name of  Beach and Comments:

Shell beach, .5 miles north of Pismo Beach, California...

I have found ALL colors there.

I promise you will spend ALL day there and never run out of sea glass to collect.

The only problem, if you want to call it a problem, is that it's usually small. About the size of a bean.

All colors can even be found, including red, bright yellow, pink, violet, orange, and so on.

These sea glass colors are rare but they are there - I have found them!

How would you rate this beach for sea  glass?:

I would rate it excellent (16+ jewelry grade pcs. found per hour)

"HAVE FUN"

Rock found at shell beach
by: Amber

I think I found a very smooth piece of jade on this beach. 3x3 inches. No sea glass but I went during high tide. Has anyone else found something like this?

Glass rocks/stones
by: Lori

Have any of you found the natural glass rocks on shell beach? I was wondering if they were glass or something else. They are usually part glass attached to stone.

Lots Of Sea Glass
by: Anonymous

My daughter and I got a bunch of small pieces of sea glass. Lots of white, green, and a few light blue pieces.

Plan on putting my metal smithing skills to use and making some sterling silver rings to set them in.

I went to Shell Beach in March 2014, was very disappointed in the amount of glass which was nil. We searched for several hours.

Caves at Shell Beach yields success
by: Walter J

We just went to shell beach on presidents day (feb 20th 2012) and found a lot of sea glass in the caves.

We filled an entire Starbucks vending machine drink bottle with glass.

Mostly brown and green and white. Good pieces as well as newer pieces.

We did find one piece of dark blue cobolt color and a light blue piece. Also found black glass. No red or yellow.

Very fun.

Went there twice this week and picked up only 3 or 4 very tiny pieces. I'm surprised to find such a high rating on this beach.

Michael,

Sea glass IS tumbled bottles and any other pieces of glass that have tossed and tumbled by the ocean/lake waves!

Congrats on your honeymoon find!

Honeymoon find!
by: Michael

My bride and I were walking the beach in Avila looking for unique rocks and shells awhen I stumbled on a pretty piece of blue glass.

I figured it was just a piece of bottle that had been tumbled in the waves, but she is confident it is blue sea glass.

A great treasure for the to of us. It is 1" x 1" x 1/2", perfect for a necklace for her!

Shell Beach or Dinosaur Caves Sea Glass
by: David and Lin at Odyssey

Has anyone been back to look for sea glass at Shell Beach since last summer?

We are anxious to know if the winter storms are uncovering more sea glass and what it looks like (photos if possible).

Happy hunting to all!

Shell Beach - Went there June19th, 2010
by: Anonymous

Just went to Shell Beach in Pismo, ca yesterday..

The beach is hard to get to, only about 2 access points to get down and you have to either climb carefully or should I say slide down a cliff or go down about 100 stairs and then BACK UP.

I loved all the little rocks/gravel- found some sea glass but it was small like a little bean so not really jewelry quality.

I found another lady there looking and she had some also but once again small.

I enjoyed all the colors of little rocks and shells though- green, blue, turquoise, clear, etc.. So it was worth my trip!

finds
by: LLL

My beach glass is all from Lake Erie. I have red, yellow, orange, purple, lavender, various shades of greens and blues, and gray, and browns. I have about 40 lbs of glass.

Need to go back home and get more this summer!

But would love to go to some other beaches and hunt!

Dinosaur Caves Shell Beach
by: jodi

Until the recent erosion, Dinosaur Caves in Shell Beach was the best place for sea glass. Nice huge pieces, bigger than whats found on the other beaches, marbles, even black sea glass.

Now that the main cave has totally caved in the beaches in the caves are keeping the treasure buried under what used to be the cliff.

There are several beaches in Shell Beach that have great pickins!!

Try asking a local at the beach to show you some good spots in the area.

Warning: some of these beaches are difficult to get to. Down drain pipes, ropes, etc. etc. Definitely not for sissies!!

NO BEACH OUT OF REACH!!!
