Teal/Dark Cyan Piece of Sea Glass..

by Jessica
(Mayetta, NJ)

I found this piece of sea glass in NJ the other day and it is much more blue than any of the other aqua pieces I have and stuck out like a sore thumb lying on the beach. I looked at the color chart here on the website and have determined that it is closest to teal/dark cyan. I would like to see if anyone has information on where this piece may have originated from.

Thanks

-Jessica

I'm certain you have found a piece of a canning jar. I to have found many pieces of the same and some of them had ATLAS embossed on them.

Origin cyan piece of sea glass
by: Jessica

I've looked at both the Ball canning jars and the insulators. They both look like they could have been the origin for the teal piece. I'm just not sure how to determine exactly which one it is. I guess that will have to be good enough lol.

Thanks guys!

Teal/Dark Cyan Piece of Sea Glass..

I also have found many pieces of the same type & color as your teal blue. I think that I may know of it's origin. Here on the west coast of Canada, "insulators" were used on the telephone poles at the turn of the century until the 70's or 8o's (?). These insulators were usually this teal blue or clear glass. The electrical poles had insulators that were made of pottery, usually a dark brown. Hope this bit of info helps you.

Bottles
by: Anonymous

Hey Jessica,

I'd say your piece is most likely from a bottle. Of course, without dates or markings on the piece it's hard to say which type or year it is. But the large size with the rings on top tells us it may have been an old Coca Cola bottle or a milk bottle at some point. It is truly beautiful (and gigantic).

Happy hunting!

I am so fascinated by sea glass - I can’t believe at 70 I found a new hobby.

Thanks for the opportunity to search and read up on this!

Your site made me so happy tonight! Why?

Many happy memories swirled back into my mind when I saw your pictures. I spent my childhood on the beaches of Cape Cod and we spent many happy hours looking for sea glass.

It is a pleasure and refreshing to meet people in the sea glass community that are willing to share! I got some great tips from your site. It was wonderful not to spend my entire vacation looking for a beach. Thanks again!

Hi David and Lin.

Love your sea glass web site. I enjoy your picture of the month and intend on winning at least once.

I have been collecting and creating things from sea glass for over twenty years. I find my sea glass on the beautiful shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland Ohio.

Thank you for sharing your treasures with me.” Yours truly,

Cathy Lincks

Just wanted to let you know (since you were so helpful) that I won a blue ribbon (1st place) in Gifford Middle School Science Fair in the category of Environmental Science with my topic - Effect of a Florida Tidal Inlet on Wrack Line Sea Glass Volume.

Now, I will compete in the Regional Science Fair which will take place on Feb 2nd. My mom and dad and I had a lot of fun searching for sea glass.

Thanks,

Mary Hyde

I am beginning to be a typical sea glass hunter - always looking for fun places to find glass!

I think your site is great - very informative - thanks for the time and effort you put into it.
