your Odyssey Sea Glass News, Issue #049 - Finally! Unknown beaches?
April 20, 2011
Hi,

Lin_and_David
Searching new unknown beaches for sea glass - and finding plenty of pretty pieces……Well, we wish!

La Niña

Nope, La Niña still holds sway here. That warm water phenomenon keeps the sea calm and the sand is still piled deep on the beaches. It does make for nice swimming and beach, but...

In other words, there have been no storms to speak of to make the sand go away, so venturing to our beaches has NOT been full of sea glass findings.

David and I have been holding off on a newsletter hoping to be able to post some nice pictures of our seaglass finds. But we can hold off no longer! We'll rely instead on the nice photos you all have been uploading.

Actually, a few weeks back we did find about 3 keepers;  a very pretty piece of dark cornflower, an odd-ball amber, orange- reddish colored piece of glass, and a bluish-tinted piece of white. So we assumed we were at the start of sea glass season here. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there again!

Things should be warming up where you are now, though.

The Other Side of the World

On the other side of the world from here, we have heard from some of our friends who live in Denmark.

They had been by to visit us a few months ago here in Peru and were introduced to sea glass for the first time. They were anxious to hit their native beaches when they got back but have had to wait for the ice and snow to melt.

Well, now they have been been able to "access" the beach and they found a very pretty blue piece of sea glass recently. Not jewelry quality but it really shows potential. We're hoping to see more pics from them soon. For some reason, we have very, very few reports of sea glass from Europe.

How about ya'll?  What are you finding?

Better News

Abraham Silupu, a friend of ours here, told us of a beach south of Paita where he and his family used to go when he was a kid. He has told us that there was lots of sea glass there back in those days and described somewhat how to get there.

sea glass in PeruSo we're going to plan an outing. We'll have to go by car since the beach is way out of the way and getting there is a problem. It'll probably be an all day trip.

Once we get our schedules coordinated and we actually go, we'll keep you posted.

Summer is just around the corner guys, so keep us up to date on your wonderful trips, memories, and findings.

Take care and happy hunting,
