Found in Chicago, Trying to identify- Black Glass

by Christine S
(Chicago, IL)

Hello! I'm having a hard time identifying this piece I found. I thought it would be a dark green or blue when put against light but no, it's straight up black. There are also some "ridges" on it, similar to what is found on white safety glass. When you look on the sides where it is chipped it is shiny black, no colors at all. Any advice would be appreciated! Found on Lake Michigan in Chicago.

Insulator glass
by: David

I'm 99% sure this is from an old insulator. At the top of this page find the search box and put "insulator" in there. A search will turn up quite a few photos of similar glass that others have found on the beach and perhaps give you a positive identification.

Thanks!
