How to Price?

I am in the US Navy living in VA Beach. I get to travel quite a bit and have picked up the hobby of collecting beach glass from my many trips. I have made these few pieces from glass picked from Rota, Spain. I want to start selling on Etsy but have no idea how to price these pieces. None of this glass has been machine tumbled; all 100% beach glass. I have reviewed the color rarity charts and I have many rare to semi-rare pieces. Please share your questions, comments and advice as I am brand new to this.

Sea Glass Jewelry
by: Elizabeth

Hi!
I used to live in Erie, PA, on Lake Erie, known for its beach glass. Wow! You have a lot of gorgeous glass in a necklace!

Beach glass has an appeal of course in communities near water. Etsy can be a good place to sell jewelry and glass as well.

Depending on the size hole you are drilling, you will want to use at least a .19 49 strand Accuflex or Beadalon nylon coated steel cable cord, heavy duty crimps and quality Terracast or sterling silver findings.

You can find supplies at Rings and Things, Fusion Beads, Fire Mountain Gems.

If your holes are larger, leather can be used with the appropriate findings. But the larger the whole the greater the risk of glass breakage.

There are tutorials on FMG, classes offered by Craftsy and then YouTube, what isn’t on YouTube?

When I was making sea glass jewelry, I priced not only by rarity and size, but the cost of my drill bits too. Small aqua 3/4" pieces that I used for single pendants, on a silver chain that I made from bulk chain, with Swarovski Crystal retailed for $46 in a gallery/fine jewelry store in Erie, PA. Cobalt $52, Pink $58.

I made larger art pieces with semi precious gemstones, crystal, paua, larger pieces of glass and they sold for $90 to $175. (Google Damselfly Studio, Beach Glass jewelry).

As for selling on Etsy, it is the best selling platform there is, but there is work to it to polish your listings, research your Search Engine Optimization, keep your shop fresh. There is lots of help for that too.

Above all, do not price too cheap. Make a quality piece with your artistic voice.

Best of luck to you!

Sea glass in Suffolk
by: D

I’ve heard that there is a sweet place in Suffolk to find sea glass. Anyone know where this beach is located? Thanks!
