Beach Pottery from Hatteras

We found this very large pottery shard on Hatteras some time ago.
It is perfectly flat and fairly thick.
From what I can find about similar pieces, I think it is called "salt glazed pottery' but I have no idea what kind of object it was once part of.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
