Rainbow In The Window

Where was this photo taken?

The glass has been collected over 5 years in the Cleveland Ohio area.

What were your feelings or impressions when taking this photo?

I found these bottles and thought they were perfect to display beach glass in.

After many hours of sorting  I decided the perfect spot for these little bottles was my kitchen window sill...after all, that is where I spend a lot of time!

The sun comes through in the morning, and that's when they are really amazing!

What kind of camera and/or lens did you use?

I used my Samsung Galaxy S6  and will take take 20_30  pictures...and end up keeping only 1 or 2.

Beach Glass vs Sea Glass
by: David and Lin @ Odyssey Sea Glass

Saying that beach glass is more plentiful than sea glass is perhaps true of New England beaches vs Great Lakes.

Overall, however,take a look at the photos of sea glass at:

Factory Bay, Australia;
Fort Bragg, Calif;
Alexandra Battery Beach, Bermuda; and
Kauai's Glass Beach

We would love to see photos of similar lake beaches  if anyone could send them in Smiley

Lovely display!!

Beautiful display, beautiful photo!!

I hunt for sea glass on the Great Lakes and also on the Atlantic beaches and rocky shore in New England.

My husband and I both agree that the sea glass found along the Great Lakes is generally much better --- more seasoned, aged, rounded, frosty and beautiful --- than the bulk of the sea glass found along the shores of New England.

There are more pieces of thick glass (meaning "older" and more historic) along the Great Lakes. Much of the seaglass found elsewhere is thin and from more recently made glass items. And we use the term "sea glass" for all of it.

Beach vs Sea
by: Anonymous

I think beach glass is more plentiful then sea glass...at least from my experience of living on the lake and vacationing in various areas along the ocean.

I used to head to the beach on average 5 times a week...til last year,the water level has been high,the rock walls used for erosion have been washed down into the water, and the beach area is basically gone. Now I go maybe 2 times a week and find very little.

Beach Glass vs Sea Glass
by: David

It is almost impossible to tell the difference.

For one thing, there is a variety even among pieces of sea glass found on ocean shores- some types of glass have a much smoother frosted surface than others for example.

Beach glass found on large lakes such as the Great Lakes looks just like ocean-bred sea glass in many cases.

We have been to a beach on the open Pacific Coast of Washington where the glass we found looks very different from most ocean beaches.

I asked Lin, "If someone handed you 10 pieces of beach or sea glass, would you be able to pick out the lake glass?"

Lin said, "No, there is too much variety in sea or lake glass to be able to tell which is which."

Beach glass vs. Sea glass

Beach glass (lakes) and sea glass look different. And glass isn't as old?? Wondering. It seems like it would be much easier to find Lake glass than from the ocean..... Any thoughts?
